First of all, I am a member of both the Ridgeline owners club [ Hi Tmac ] and an accord site. I do not own an Odyssey, but my neighbor Greg owns one with the variable cylinder management. Greg has somewhat more than 66,000 miles on his van and started having engine problems and took it in to the dealer and it needed a ring and valve job. Greg knows that I am a member of the ROC and thought that since our vehicles shared an engine that I may have heard of his problem. I told Greg that the ridgeline does not have the VCM and that he should get on the OOC and post a question to the knowledgeable people there. Well I am jumping the gun on him and asking you all for myself. Has anyone had a ring and valve job on their Odyssey's ? This job was not covered by warranty and Greg had to pay for it out of his pocket.

Thank you in advance.

What were the symptoms? Rough running, burning oil, hard to start?

66k miles is awfully early for such repairs.

Do you think the guy maintained it properly? Changed oil, etc?

What year Ody are we talking? A compression test would be needed to diagnose, but I highly doubt this VTec has a ring or valve seating issue. He'd be getting horrible performance and specific cyl or random misfires on a valve seating issue. A clickedy-clickedy sound from a head might require a lash adjustment. VTecs have jamb-nut style adjusters for that.
