: Body too low?

I just bought a 2001 Odyssey (3.0 4WD Prestige model - not sure what that is elsewhere in the world - this is a Japanese import into New Zealand) and the body, especially the front end, seems very low - coming out of some driveways, or going over certain speed bumps, I can hear the front spoiler scraping, even when I'm just edging over, i.e. not going at any speed.

Is there an easy way to raise the front end a bit or is there another way to deal with this? I'm a bit paranoid about any bumps in the road now.

Cheers,

Greig

With the exception of our '96 & '97 first-generation Odysseys, spoiler scraping is just par for the course. I found with our 2000 Ody that approaching bumps, driveway drop-offs, etc. at a slight angle helped immensely.

I have a Ridgeline as my daily driver, but my wife said she's "stuck" with the Ody because it is low. Her elderly parents can get in & out of it easily. It is easier to get in & out of than a sedan.

I believe it is possible to adjust the suspension to raise the height of your car, but I don't know how easy it is to make such a modification.

We also have problems with speed bumps / pot holes etc and frequently scrape the front or rear spoiler, which can be real annoying at times, but we have a bodykit which is fitted fairly loose so they 'spring' back and don't cause a lot of damage.
I don't know if you have a body kit on your car too as I don't know much about Ody's in general (I'm not really a car expert ether, LOL, just picked up a few things from a Honda forum), but it could be the same thing, & if so you could remove a bodykit if it's causing a lot of problems.

On another note, I'm hoping my hubby will agree to an adjustable suspension on ours so we can change the height according to our needs :)

My first thought would be to remove the bumpers, but that's probably not what you want to do! :)

I am sure if you take it to a "specialty shop" they might be able to give you some suggestions? Hopefully not too costly!

While the Odyssey does sit lower, then some other mini-vans, it sure is a better option than going with a standard caravan. The reason it handles and drives more like a car is because its setup similar.

Several Odyssey owners that I am aware of, do put airshocks in their vans to assist with towing sizable weights. Maybe there is a kit that would automatically raise your van a little to assist with your front spoiler rubbing.

The scrapping noise you are hearing in probably the front deflector and not actually the bumper anyway.

Wonder if Honda will ever offer 4wd/awd here. That might be just what the Dr. ordered for us snowbelt dwellers.
