Hi! I just bought my first Honda (drove a Subi before, which I still have), and my first minivan. We looked at both the EX and the LX and ended up choosing the LX this time around mainly to save money and because we felt pretty good about the options that come standard - less to break. But, I'm starting to feel a little lonely - so few out there. I'm beginning to second guess my decision. Does anyone out there have an LX and like it? When we decided to buy a minivan, Honda was, of course, at the top of our list and since we like to buy new and keep 'em awhile we decided to get a new Odyssey vs. a new anything else. But I don't see any others around. Also, does anyone have any experience with the resale of an LX? I'm worried I might not be able to sell it if I decide to upgrade later. Thanks - this site looks great! Lots of great comments!

I own an LX and with the exception of a few additional toys that comes with the EX and Ex-L I would still choose with LX because as the van gets older some the biggest problems that comes with the EX and EX-L is electrical and that can sometimes be very expensive to repair and the failure prune power sliding doors, almost every owner I know have issues with those power sliding doors.

I just bought the 08' Honda Odyssey LX. And I bought it mainly because of a tight budget. It did not feel right to pay $2000-$2500 extra for the EX. Wasn't in my budget.

Yes, I would have loved the power doors but not worth the extra money. plus my kids are little, so for the next few years, we will still have to get out & help them out of the car seats. I think the power doors help when you have kids who can get out themselves. Maybe after 3-4 years, I can go for the Honda Touring model. :D

This is my first van & I already love it. It drives like a car. I already filled gas the first time & got a mileage of 20 in the city. Waiting for the long weekend so that I can go on a road trip with the kids.

The LX's major problem is the tranny.
Keep it neat and with few or no problems
Other than that it has good resale value

I think you are referring to the 1999-2004 model year Odysseys and their transmission issues. The model (i.e. LX, EX, etc.) did not have anything to do with the transmission issues.

Good choice on the LX. I've got a 2001 LX and the manual sliding doors are easy to maintain. Many posts on power sliding door problems. Especially if you are going to keep for the long term.

Should you wish to know the most common problems facing the 2008 model year, I compiled a list of TSBs:

I have been an Odyssey owner since 2000 when I purchased the Xl and clocked up 190k miles.

I sold it 2 months ago and purchased a 2009 lx with 20kmiles on it for $18k.

I have never had any probles with my first van, however it did get serviced at the dealer all the time.

These vehicles are the best daily use vehicles I have driven and owned and I dont believe you will have any problems with yours.

have fun with your Odyssey.

Harry

As far as I know,Auto steering system includes the following parts: steering wheel, ball joint, Steering Shaft (http://www.gasgoo.com/auto-products/steering-shaft-steering-column-502/),Alternator (http://www.gasgoo.com/auto-products/steering-shaft-steering-column-502/),Steering Column (http://www.gasgoo.com/auto-products/alternator-starter-340/),etc. Above is my understanding of auto systems especially the steering system.
