Question for anyone?
I Have a 02 Od with 82,777 miles on it. I Have had a noise in the front end like a(popping sound). I Had the front struts replaced with new ones, still the noise? A very reputable garage installed them. Honda was too!! Expensive
The noise is worse and it occurs when making a hard left or big circle type turn. Something like turning left in a cul-de-sac type turn. It sometimes happens when you go over bumps or speed bumps.
I took the care back to the garage and they said shock/struts fine, even replace the new right on thinking it was defective. They also replaced the mounting plates on both. The noise comes and goes, they heard it to. Still could not find it. They took it to a tire garage put it up on a lift and nothing was found.

Took it today to Honda dealer and they checked the CV joints, boots, ball joints and sway bars. Honda said they are all fine and tight. They could not find anything mechanically wrong. They said maybe with 82k + miles that maybe the sway bars are wearing, but they could not tighten them any. Does any one have any ideas this is really getting to be a loud noise, and the van is still in excellent shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks A loyal Honda ody owner braht

I remember a while ago Honda has issued two Tsb's on this problem, check at nhtsa web site.

I would like to add to my previous suggestion that you should take the vehicle back to the garage that replaced the front struts and ask them to put it back up on the hoist and hold the lower half of the coil spring and give it a good shake back and forth and see if there is any shifting or movement of the coil spring where it sits in the lower part of the shock also I would like to add that it is alot better to replace the entire unit (shock and coil spring) with monroe, I noticed in Canada they have the entire unit already assembled and it is a lot cheaper that the oringinal Honda. Goodluck.

hello read about your problem with the front suspencion and I was wondering if you find out about the noise.
I have just got a 03ody and the right front strut was bad. I replace both side with a KYB gas struts. right after that some noise came, specialy over small bumps. I have disconect the sway bar and drove like that and the noise still there. I took one of the struts out to check if I miss some thing and I found the mount plate. (in the top of the strut) I found the center is steal and is sorrund with rubber. well the steal part is rust from the botton side. so just to try I put some oil and put all together and went for test drive. foud the noise have disapier from that side.
I guess I want to said did you find some thing else.
thanks

Today I had same problem started suddenly. Turning steering sharply either way and get a loud bang like something snapped just on left front side. Drives fine and no other noises. Went to local Tires Plus and young guy says it's the top strut mount needing lubricated. Says it isn't dangerous and easy to fix myself with spray lube Will let u know Glad I went there instead of dealer

i also have that clunking noise in the front end that can not be located. My van had about 80k on it and I thought the strut/shocks needed to be replaced. THe van never made a noise until the shocks were changed. My mechanic installed KYB's. I have had it back to him about 3 times the second time he said the top bearing plates were bad so he changed them. Still make noise. If anyone has had luck into finding a solution I sure would like to hear it cause this is getting frustrating. Thanks.....

I had the same symptoms. My mechanic said it was a broken coil spring and he replaced it. Spring was about $150 but with the labour and need to so front end realignment after came to $350 before taxes.
