Is it just me or has anyone else had poor leather wear on the front seats of their Odyssey? We have a 2007 Odyssey EX-L. The leather seats on the front door sides on the seats and backs were badly worn. At 22,000 miles I took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the leather.

In my estimation, Honda is using a subpar leather material if not vinyl on the seat sides vs. the seating surfaces which had been fine. Probably to save a little money. I guess the profit on a $32,000 vehicle ain't what it used to be they need to squeez out a couple more pennies.

My concern is they were badly worn in 20,000 miles. I worry that the new ones will be badly worn again at 40,000 miles when I am out of warranty.

Otherwise it is a fantastic vehicle.

I have an 06 and the leather seems to be wearing pretty decent being as it's being hammered on by my kids, lol! One thing to remember with leather is you have to treat it from time to time or it will dry out and crack. I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner every few months, works pretty good at keeping the leather moist.

One other thing someone told me long ago bout leather ... the really fancy top of the line leather is actually much harder to maintain and keep up then the cheaper "vinyl" mix type leather and therefore not as good a choice for "family" cars like minivans and suvs. The thinking is that the cheaper leather withstands abuse (like from kids) and lack of cleaning/conditioning better than fancy expensive leather does and will last longer. Hmmmm ...

Our 08 Odyssey EX-L is having a similar problem. The leather is holding up fine and has been treated every two months. The vinyl sides of the seats are all cracking. The dealership says that the vinyl must have been from a bad batch and offered to have an upholstery shop replace it.

Guess I will be watching the sides of my leather seats as well! :(

I'm having issues right now with both front seats cracking. only had 1.5 year and they say it is normal wear and tear. after arguing about this, they replaced the drivers side, but would not the passenger. i filed a bbb report and will be taking it to the media if needed to replace. they charge large amounts for supposedly "leather bucket seats" , but actually they are vinyl on the sides. piss poor material.

So I got the leather in both front seats replaced under warranty by the deal about a year ago. We are only about 10k miles since then and I noticed the new leather is beginning to crack on the drivers seats, as I suspected it would as they used the same cheap leather seats with vinyl sides.

my '06 has the same problem, I took an additional warranty but they told me it's beacause I am carpenter who's using almost only jeans and they are the worst material to keep the leather in shape! lol
