Glad to find this forum. I have been on another Odyssey forum for a couple of years but it has really gone downhill. Hopefully someone can help me with a problem. I have an '07 EXL with 25,000 miles. It has a couple of different symptoms that I think are might be caused by the same problem. Between 1300 and 1600 rpms it skips abruptly up and down by about 200 rpms. This only happens when driving on level ground or up a very slight grade. Speed this occurs is 40 to 50 mph. There is also a droning sound that occurs at the same time. It is not the well known droning at 2100 rpms. At 2100 it is quiet.

I dont think the engine speed problem is the transmission. It feels more like electronics or fuel delivery or something else. I have also thought about torque converter lockup but I dont think that is it either. I have determined that it has nothing to do with the ECO light being on.

The noise occurs mostly when it is in the lower rpm 1300-1400 of this cycle. It almost has a metal on metal sound at times. Sometimes it reminds me of motor mount noise or exhaust manifold noise.

I am scheduled for a dealer appointment on Tuesday but would sure appreciate some insight as to whether others have had this or how it might have been fixed. I am somewhat of a gearhead but I am baffled with this. I just know it is making me crazy! Thanks in advance.

About an hour after I took it to the dealer, they called and said they were replacing my torque converter. After I get it back I'll post the results.

Glad to hear that they found out your problem. Hopefully the new one will be better. Did the dealer have any response on why it was bad so early?

They had no idea. They did give me a little difficulty regarding having a trailer hitch without the trans cooler or power steering cooler. I had to work a little to convince them that the only thing I ever haul with the Ody is a bike rack. I guess I should just install the coolers for future service work and for the (one day) future buyer. Other than that, they said they dont see many TC repairs.

It looks like you are talking about my 2007 Honda Odyssey and about my problem.About 4 month ago I bring it to Honda dealer in Brooklyn on Nostrand ave.I ask them to do a road test with me, so I would show how the noise sounds like I also explained them that We need a speed to be 45mph.They did road test without me or may be they didn't do it at all.
They just call me and said - this is your broken engine mounts. After they replaced them and I paid for it $1005.00 incl, tax, I went on a highway and didn't see any changes. The noise still there. Now I'm in dispute with Honda. Please let me know if replacing of TC fixed the problem. If I find out what cause the problem before you - will let you know.

This may not be a full cure but may help. Make sure that the firmware for your transmission is up to date. I had some issues with those speeds mentioned and there was a service bulletin out for the firmware. I had vibration and noise at those speeds (40-50) and it definitely helped my situation.

Hello, I had my 2007 Odyssey's torque converter replaced at 45,000km - after a routine "software update". This seemed to fix things until this summer at 90,000km the noises at the conditions you described started coming back. At that point, they changed the rear engine mounts. This seemed to do the trick until now - 100,000kms - the noises are back. Took it to the dealership and of course they couldn't recreate the condtions. Thinking of ditching this car before I need another torque converter as I have had many other problems. Really disappointed with the 2007 Odyssey.
