It is a VHS system, however it does have inputs on the front panel for connecting an external video/audio source.

What we did with these when they came out was used that input to add a Playstation2 to the system using a voltage inverter to power it. That way you had the ability to play DVD's and video games. You can connected any external player or game that has RCA audio and Video outputs.
