My '03 Od has developed a problem after being garaged for 2 months. Shortly after starting the "engine" light goes on and when the Od is in "park" I notce the rpm's go from 1,000 to 1,500 and back down and then up again. I suspect something in the idle control mechanism. The local Honda dealer is quoting $400 to repair the problem! Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions?

I think it could be two things. First there is a wire that is for the power steering. It makes the rpms go up when you turn the wheel all the way to prevent stalling. A lot of people have the problem where that breaks. Check the connections of that. Also I don't know the this motor uses them but and Idle control valve. Check into that to see if there is even one of this motor. I thinking more of the first one thow. And based off of reading threw there, there is a IAC valve.

My 2000 Ody started with the idle surge this afternoon. When I start the engine, the RPMs seem to hang high (2000 or so) longer than usual. After a few minutes the idle drops and surges between 1000 and 1500. I will look at the steering as suggested previously.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
