Our liftgate worked perfectly until today. When it opens, it will go almost all the way up, stop, beep, go up a little bit more to where it is fully open, then come back down. Just before it starts to come back down, the beep turns to a constant alarm. The sensors do not appear damaged, structurally everything appears in order. Wanted to ask here to see if anyone has a suggestion before we have to take it to the dealer to get looked at. Thanks in advance

I have a Chrysler PT Cruiser (no auto lift gate), but the gas struts which help open and close the rear hatch seem to be a problem. The struts get weak after a few years. I also had this problem on a previous Chrysler Town and Country with auto open feature. When the struts were replaced, everything worked OK again. This just might be the problem, if everything else is OK.
