: Front Disc Brakes
weatherman 01-19-2008, 07:47 PM Apparently there were some problems with the front disc brakes in the '05 models. It's been a while, but I think they were making noises, and when I mentioned it to the dealer service dept., they said that there was either a recall or a TSB on the front brakes due to faulty materials, and they fixed them with no hassle and of course no charge. We just rolled over 46K miles and that has been the only issue so far.
lizzurd 01-20-2008, 08:45 AM There is an updated brake pad for the front that we have installed on a number of 2005's. Some even had the rotors replaced but i believe the problems was mostly with the front pads.

lizzurd,
I take it from your reply that you are a Honda tech. Ironically enough, lately under light braking there is a light squealing sound, but it goes away under moderate to heavy braking. With only 46K miles on it, and neither myself nor my wife riding the brakes too heavy, there is plenty of pad left at all 4 corners. Just wondering what you think the noise might be, and should I worry about it?

Actually i am an Asst Parts Manager. But i have a mechanical back ground. I will talk to one of my techs and see what they suggest for you Oddy.
When your dealer fixed your problem did they replace the front rotors or maching them? Od did they just rpelace the pads?

I'm not sure. I think they just replaced the pads, but to be sure I will have to ask them.

If you still have your receipt from the when you had it serviced it should be on there. If all they did was pads i would suggest getting the rotors machined or replaced.
cheatek 11-05-2008, 06:53 PM Same on 06s, there's a TSB for them making noise too. Fixed no prob only thing now is they dust like a son of a gun, doh! :(
PA_Odyssey 11-13-2008, 06:01 PM I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when stopping from highway speeds. After rotating the tires I found that the front rotors were warped @ only 14K. The dealer offered to surface the rotors for $130, but this would only make them thinner. So I did some research & found a Brake parts supplier that would order me a custom set of "Frozen Rotors". These are power slot rotors that are cryogenically frozen, along with a set of EBC "Green Stuff" pads. The difference in stopping power was unbelievable! It stops on a dime, no fade except under extreme conditions (multiple panic stops), I have put roughly 10k miles since the upgrade. There is no squeaking or squealing, the only time you hear the slotted rotors is when you have to shut it down quick. This should be considered a must when towing or driving w/ 4+ passengers & a lot of luggage. The original brakes fade too easy & they are unable to handle the weight of the Van, especially when loaded.
eneka 11-25-2008, 10:17 PM at around 20k are brakes had started to make a groaning sound. our dealer resurfaces our front rotors and replaced the pad with one's with a new formula..now a 60k the noise has came back but it only happened after the brakes are hot.
stami 01-07-2009, 08:33 PM I replaced original rotors with ATE slotted rotors and Hawk pads. After a couple times braking very gently, a noise came out. It wasn't squeaking, but it was something more like a beating, or in other words at 360 degrees of revolution, it looks like something touches just in one point. It is coming out of both the front wheels. Later I installed the old rotors with the same new pads, and there was no noise. Does anyone have any suggestions on this problem???
