Where do I start...
We owned four Honda's prior to purchasing the 2000 Odyssey EX, which all exceeded 150,000 when they were either traded or sold...minimal repairs and issues, other than rust.
Ordered the vehicle in July 1999....delivered in November 1999...none in the showroom of course. Paid sticker....my bad, not Honda's.
165,000 miles in 11 years...not excessive mileage for the years, and the vehicle has been maintained and inspected (state regulation in PA) at our Honda dealership.
The top ten list:
1. Faulty automatic doors...several repairs and annoying occurrences. The door are just plain dangerous with small children.
2. Check engine light has been on for several years...dealership just shakes their head.
3. Rear wiper arm failure
4. Replaced motor mounts...twice
5. Air conditioning condenser failed at 70,000 miles and the system needs to be charged every year.
6. Oil pan casing cracked...that's a new one
7. Replaced sway arm bushings...twice
8. Failed EGR valve and other emissions equipment...all shortly after the warranty expired of course.
9. Failed catalytic converter...shortly after the warranty expired too.
10. Lurching transmission, but dealer claims that this is normal for the van.
The repairs have exceeded the trade-in value of the van for the past 40,000 miles. Clearly the most disappointing Honda product that we have ever owned.
Time for a new van, as the latest catalytic converter replacement is approaching $1,500...more that the vehicle is worth. I never thought that I'd say this, but I'm heading to the Toyota dealer this time, as I feel cheated by the Honda product and experience.
Does anybody need a van that runs and looks like a champ, but is addicted to the repair shop like a crack addict?
