Honda included an ATF filter on the cooler return line some time in 2002 (5spd autos only). They are an easy enough filter to replace. A critical one too IMO. Here they are:

Hey guys.. Has anyone been able to locate the ATF filter for the 2007-2008 transmission.. My buddy has a 2007 and he wants to change out the filter this month and for the life of us, we can not find the filter (housing).. The photo from Honda on this thread does not really show where it is located.

If anyone has found it, would you be able to post a picture??

I hear ya. The parts diagram isn't real clear for the 2007+. I haven't had a need to get my 2008 up on ramps yet to check it out. What I would do though is trace out the cooler lines. The filter (housing/cap) should be at the end of the cooler return line.

Here's another diagram for the 2008. Not sure if it is more helpful:

Thanks! HandA... But it looks like from the photo, the filter is in the inside the transmission housing.. Is this the case??

thanks HandA

It sure looks like it's within the 'bellhousing'.:eek: That would kind of throw the replaceability factor right out the window. Thanks for the input HandA.

Given Honda's less than stellar record of transmission failures, an engineering enhancement might have been to incorporate a "serviceable" ATF filter. This new "hidden" design might lead to more owners neglecting this maintenance item due to the extra labour that the dealers will no doubt need to add on to access it.

It definately looks like the filter is only accessible with the transmission pulled away from the engine.

The fluid comes back in from the cooler into the #7 line in the picture below and then goes through the filter and into the case. They don't show any sign that the filter can be accessed from the front.

we looked into it awhile back but couldn't find any instructions on changing it and haven't ever sold one in the dealership. Without that information it just didn't seem like it would be helpful offering them.

Hello,

Yes, the filter is located INSIDE the transmission. Best bet would be to install an external inline filter... like magnefine or something like those.
